Merger Study Committee

Act 170 of 2026 requires Vermont school districts to participate in regional merger committees to study the advisability of forming larger unified union school districts. For this process, ANWSD is included in a suggested merger study region with the Addison Central School District, Lincoln School District, and Mount Abraham Unified School District. The purpose of the study is to examine the strengths and challenges of current governance structures and determine whether forming a new unified union school district would improve educational opportunities, operational efficiency, transparency, accountability, financial sustainability, and access to career and technical education. The merger committee is required to make a final recommendation about whether a merger is advisable or inadvisable; participation in the study itself does not automatically result in a merger.
