Dangerous Cold Weather Expected

Frigid weather is expected to arrive Thursday evening and extend through Saturday. The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures to be below zero during the day on Friday with dangerous wind chills as low as 30 to 45 below zero.

The safety of students is our first priority and a responsibility that we take very seriously. We know the decision to postpone or cancel school has an impact on families for many reasons. We always aim to stay open; however, there are occasions when, due to extreme cold, the safety interests of our students, especially those walking to school or waiting for a bus are best served by closing the schools. We are monitoring the situation carefully so as to make the best decision and will notify families as soon as possible if we decide to cancel.

If school is open on Friday - PLEASE, ensure that your child(ren) is dressed in warm winter clothing that fully covers the head, face, and hands. Warm boots are also essential. If anyone needs help providing these items for your child(ren)- let us know. We know kids lose and outgrow items quickly and you may not have what you need on hand. We can help! Contact the school for more information.

Please also plan accordingly to ensure students will not be outside, walking, or waiting for the bus for more than 7 minutes. Families should always use their best judgment on whether their child(ren) should attend.

If school is closed on Friday, families will be notified using our automated message service. In addition, the closure will be posted on WCAX and our website.
